Chapter 4: Alongside Employees
4. Creating a safe and healthy workplace
In the belief that the best healthcare products and services are made in healthy environments in both mental and physical terms, we will create a safe, healthy, and harassment-free workplace.
Occupational safety and health
The Sawai Group is working to prevent workplace accidents and promote a comfortable and easy-to-work working environment to protect the occupational safety and health of its employees.
Occupational safety
In order to eliminate workplace accidents, we are working to thoroughly reduce the risks associated with equipment and to ensure that work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and rules. When an accident occurs, we identify the cause and implement measures to prevent recurrence, and we aim to achieve zero accidents by spreading the details of these measures to other business locations and making them known to all employees through the safety and health committees of each site.
For the frequency rate of occupational injuries, see the section “Work Environment” of the “ESG Data” page.
Mental health
We are working to maintain employees’ mental health so that they can fully demonstrate their capabilities and work vigorously. As part of those efforts, we have been conducting stress checks every year to prevent mental health problems or detect them at an early stage. We analyze the results of the stress check and the tendencies of employees on long-term leave to identify the issues we currently face. Based on these findings, we regularly conduct line-care training for managers and supervisors and self-care training for employees themselves. For employees suffering from mental health problems, their supervising physicians, occupational physicians, and public health nurses work together to develop individualized return-to-work programs to help them return to work smoothly and prevent similar problems from recurring.
Prevention of long working hours
To ensure that our employees can continue to work in good mental and physical health for many years to come, we comply with the labor–management agreement on working hours and manage working hours to prevent overwork. We also promote flexible working practices, such as flextime and work-from-home systems to enhance the work-life balance of employees. If employees have to work long hours due to unavoidable circumstances, occupational physicians or public health nurses interview them to prevent health problems.
Smoking reduction measures
The Sawai Group’s Work Rules prohibit its employees from smoking throughout each business site and the working hours, including lunch and other breaks, suitably for employees of a healthcare company. There is no “smoking room”. We are also implementing some measures to help employees to quit smoking.
Initiative for health management
Purpose of health management
The Sawai Group strives to maintain and improve the physical and mental health of its employees by conducting regular health checkups and stress checks so that both the company and employees can understand the health problems suffered by employees and take measures to address them. By creating an environment where employees can continue to work in good physical and mental health, we aim to maximize their capabilities and consequently improve the performance of the entire company.
Health management promotion system
In the Sawai Group, the Group Human Resources Department plays a major role in devising and implementing various measures to promote health management through collaboration among occupational physicians, nurses, public health nurses, and other staff in charge of safety and health at each factory and major business sites. In addition, at each business site with more than 50 employees. A safety and health committee is held monthly in accordance with law and regulations, where representatives from each workplace and industrial health staff have discussions with company representatives, including the head of the business site. We therefore work together in cooperation between labor and management in promoting the creation of a work environment in which all employees can work with peace of mind.
