EnvironmentalBuilding a Recycling-oriented Society
The Sawai Group’s products and services are created using a wide variety of resources. To use limited resources available on Earth as effectively as possible and help realize a recycling-oriented society, we are implementing various initiatives to reduce waste.

Chapter 7: Alongside the Global Environment
3. Contributing to a recycling-oriented society
We will work to establish a recycling-oriented society by effectively using our limited resources through recycling and by reducing waste.
Waste reduction
We work to ensure the adequacy of our product packaging by preventing it from becoming excessive while maintaining its ability to meet its essential requirements, such as protecting the contents and providing consumers with necessary information. We use recycled paper for cases for PTP*1 sheets that contain tablets or other products.
In 2023, we launched an initiative to recycle waste from the PTP process. Until then, plastic PTP blisters had been unremovable from aluminum foil so that both would be recyclable, leading us to incinerate PTP sheet waste generated during adjustments to PTP machines and production at factories and to recycle the ashes into part of the raw material for concrete. A newly developed technology has made plastic PTP blisters removable from aluminum foil, thereby making both recyclable into their original materials.*2 Compared to incineration, this technology has reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 94%.
- “PTP” stands for press through packaging, which is also known as blister packaging. PTP sheets are made of aluminum foil joined to plastic blisters, in which tablets or capsules are contained.
- Plastic blisters are recycled into plastic material for building parts and carpet tiles used at offices. Aluminum foil is recycled into various aluminum products.
As part of our waste reduction efforts, we actively promote the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) by such measures as ensuring waste segregation by type and using cups made of recycled paper, aiming to be an environmentally friendly company.
Conservation of resources and energy
To achieve the target of reducing energy consumption intensity by an annual average of 1% or more, which has been set for businesses in the Act on Rationalizing Energy Use, the Sawai Group is implementing various initiatives, including replacing old machines with the latest, more energy-efficient ones and improving existing equipment.
Additionally, we have installed solar power generation systems in some factories so that a portion of the electricity we use is generated by ourselves.
